Milan - Sightseeing

Must GO

Today I share the highlights of places we visited on our trip to Milan. Our picture collage tells our story of how we spend our days sightseeing the city.

Fashion, art and history are key elements to discover in Milan while we spiced it up with some lovely corners or places to explore when visiting Milan.

Must
INDULGE

Next post of our Milan trip will be ALL about food and must-indulge restaurants.

Must
SEE
  • Piazza del Duomo

  • Duomo

One of the largest churches of Milan. The gothic church has more than 3500 sculptures of saints, animals and monsters, both on the external walls as on the various little towers.

  • Galleria Vittorio Emanuele

A fancy, posh shopping gallery which was one of the first Italian buildings made in cast iron and glass.
The passage has a dome of 47 meters height.

The ground of the central octagonal shows four mosaics portraying the coat of arms of the three capitals of the Kingdom of Italy, i.e. Florence, Turin, Rome and of course Milan.

Everyone visits the Galleria to look for the bull! Tradition says that if a person spins around three times with a heel on the testicles of the bull from ‘Turin coat of arms’, luck will be on your side!

We didn’t do that … we believe that each human being creates their own luck without a bull ;-)

  • Teatro alla Scala

The opera building which is known for its amazing acoustics and one of the largest stage in the world.

  • Brera

A lovely quarter in the city which is known for its beautiful small streets and old houses with lovely balconies. Plenty of alleys lead you to authentic, typical Italian-style churches, art galleries, and the place which yuppies choose to go out for aperitivo or dining.

    Work of art and history:

    • Pinacoteca di Brera: one of the most important art galleries in the world.
    • San Maria del Carmine
    • San Simpliciano
    • San Marco
  • San Bernardino alle Ossa

Not many Milanese seem to know this church, while it distinguishes itself from many other churches because of its macabre chapel filled with human bones and skulls along the walls, the ‘ossaria’.
All bones and skulls are authentic from the 12th century.

Must
DO
  • Duomo

Climb the duomo to see Milan from the top! It feels like an open air museum!

  • Giardini Pubblici

Visit the largest park in Milan, a must-do when visiting the city. Especially as nature was covered in Fall colors, it was a delight to spend some time over there. Plenty of Milanese come to the park to walk out with their dogs, but never mind, the dog walkers have kind of separate areas in the park.

  • SHOPPING – Milan is like a candy store for every fashionista!

  • Rinascente: the largest mall of Milan and a MUST-SEE!

Any Italian Brand you fancy will have a store or collection in this Walhalla of Brands.

  • Via Monte Napoleone: one of the most expensive shopping streets in Milan but a MUST for anyone loving Gucci, Prada, Cartier, Armani, Vhernier, Prada, Valentino, … and so much more!

  • Via della Spiga: the other must-do shopping street. Same story here, all the top brands have their grand luxury stores here. Even if you don’t buy, you should stroll through the street to enjoy some fairytale kind of window shopping.

With love and inspiration,

Milady A
